User Research

Without user research, could we even call our work “user experience”? I believe that surveys, on-site visits, user testing and other interactions between designers and users are a crucial foundation for well-made digital experiences that grow into well-loved products.

SAS advanced analytics suite

I worked with teammates and our in-house usability lab to design, develop and run a usability test for our enterprise-scale advanced analytics product. Combining two research methods, task observation and survey, allowed me to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. After processing the resultant information I wrote and presented a report on high-level findings, analysis and recommendations.

SAS download process

Work sample 2

My mentor was researching how to improve college students’ experiences when downloading SAS University Edition, a process that involves virtual machines and complex instructions. I compiled a test group, gathered baseline information, investigated the strengths and weaknesses of the current process and designed a new infographic to add to the download instructions based on our findings. Since we were using hard copies of our infographics, I adapted the survey for one participant with a visual impairment and presented the infographic in the style of a screenreader.
